Ours began with a lifelong love of books, countless conversations over coffee, and the belief that stories deserve more than one life.
The Borrowed Book isn’t a lending library—it’s a home for carefully chosen pre-loved books, waiting to find their next reader.
Every book on our shelves has already been part of someone else’s story. Now it’s waiting to become part of yours.
A Shared Love of Stories

Tori spent nearly twenty years in education before deciding to begin a completely new chapter. She spent her childhood role-playing 'children's author and illustrator' and every summer holiday riding her bike back and forth to her local library. Having always found comfort, inspiration and adventure between the pages of a book, opening an independent bookshop became more than a business idea—it became a dream.
Paul has spent his career in education too, teaching English Literature before leading colleges and working with educational leaders across the country. He still believes the best conversations (preferably taking place on top of a mountain) often begin with a great book, and his shelves are filled with everything from Virginia Woolf and Albert Camus to modern literary fiction.

Why Morecambe?
Tori grew up in Morecambe. Paul is a new recruit. But there’s just something about the sea that encourages you to slow down.
We wanted to create the kind of bookshop we’d always hoped to find ourselves—a peaceful place where people can browse without pressure, discover unexpected treasures whilst sipping coffee, and leave carrying a story they’ll never forget.
